International Youth Camp

The final pages of the album document an "International Camp" in Devon, with participants, it seems, from Belgium, France, Germany and further afield - even New Zealand.

Interesting given that just a year later those countries would be at war with each other. There seems little sense of impending hostilities in these images of shared fun by the sea.

Throughout this section of the album initials under the photos seem to relate to the nationalities of those captured in them. Although part of the Devon Camp set, this one must have been taken before they set off, in Trafalgar Square, London. If (D) does refer to a nationality (Danish?) it is puzzling that he is wearing a kilt

This would suggest that the camp was near the county border, but given the earlier postcard image of Sidmouth that is perhaps unlikely, although if they travelled to Cornwall by train or road there are perhaps surprisingly no photos of the journey
